Openlaw Prices

Openlaw is a case based system. A case contains a collection of documents relating to a particular situation, such as a dispute, which need to be reviewed together.  More documents may be added at any time up to the licensed capacity.

We have simplified our prices and made some reductions for 2007.

We have Case licences and User licences, and for all users at a site, Site licences.

For each type, you need to assess how many documents you will need to be able to deal with in a case.

There are separate pricing sections in this document (click to download the PDF) covering:

Case Licences

A Case licence permits any member of your staff to work on the case and for the case to have up to the specified capacity (number of documents). Licences can be rented monthly, quarterly or annually or bought once-off as a perpetual licence for the case.

Named User licences

A named user licence allows that user to work on unlimited cases. Licences can be annual or perpetual.

Site Licences

Site licences allow any member of your team, including the client, counsel and experts, to work on unlimited cases. Each case may have up to the specified capacity (number of documents).  Site Licences may be annual or perpetual, for a single site and for multi-office firms.

External User Licences

These licences allow those who are not members of your organisation, but are part of your team, to work on a case.  They are case specific, and are used for clients, counsel, experts and other third parties.  They are £300 per head, but free of charge to site licence holders.

Openlaw Add-ons for

Openlaw Add-ons help with specific tasks – examples include barcoding, data import, appending cases to each other, image testing and OCR, plus a range of export options.

Openlaw Variants

Use the Openlaw concepts on a range of similar database tools – Archiving, e-Bible, Data Room amongst others.

Bug fixes, Updates and Support

All users are entitled to free bug fixes. Other support and update options depend on the licence type and your own needs. The options are summarised here.

Training, Workshops and Case Planning

There is a comprehensive electronic manual.  We recommend that every user has a ½ day initial training.  For larger groups we offer awareness training, introducing the concepts and advanced features.

Help with getting your data and documents into Openlaw

You can add material yourself, including electronic documents, or we can use our electronic Cataloguer, or we can introduce you to professional service providers with Openlaw expertise who can do the scanning and primary coding for you.

In all cases, add 20% to the licence price for the right to upgrades as they are released and telephone support.

External users

Licences for external members of your team such as the client, counsel and experts are fixed at £300 per head, per case.  Site Licences automatically include these extra licences.

Support and updates

Support covers the right to upgrades as they are released and telephone support.  For a perpetual or lifetime licence, annual support (including updates) is charged at 20% of the annual rental per annum.  For annual or quarterly licences, it is charged at 20% of the rental rates.

Support is telephone support for up to three main contacts.  For direct end-user support for larger numbers of users, an additional charge is made of £100 per user per annum.

Free 30-day trial

If you would like a free evaluation or 30-day trial let us know.  You can experiment for yourself , but we recommend that you have some training.  We also offer educational work-shops using Openlaw which introduce fee-earners to litigation support concepts whilst showing them how to get the best out of Openlaw.

Contact Richard Brockbank:

  • If our pricing does not suit your particular requirements - we are always willing to discuss alternative formulae which make commercial sense for both us and you.

  • For introductions to specialist bureaux who scan and code. You can delegate to them the labour-intensive, less legal aspects of the work so that you can concentrate on the legal input.

All prices are subject to VAT.  All work is done on our Standard Terms of Business.  All software is subject to the terms of our standard software licence.  Click here for details.
