Name Links are connections between people and documents or, in database terms, between Names and Items. The most obvious such relationship is as Sender or Recipient. Many simple Disclosure Lists show only these two capacities. They are handled on their own on the Names tab and are concatenated with the Item Description for the standard List for service.

It is often necessary, however, to show other relationships - that someone was mentioned in a document or that it was copied to him or her.
There is a separate section on adding new Name Link Types.
There is a place on the Set Menu (on the Control Panel) where new Name Link Types can be set up - it is one of the User Defined Lists.
On the tab shown here, there is a place to select a Name Link type (Copied to in the example above), a down arrow on a button which allows you to select a Name (the same function as is used to pick a Sender or Recipient) and a button to choose whether the Name Links are listed in order of Name Link Type or by name.
These names can be searched for in the Query Wizard using either the field Name Links or All Names (which searches the Sender and Recipient fields as well)
As with much else in Openlaw, this is a powerful function if you want it. It can be ignored completely if you just want to serve a simple List.
Note: The Tab will display all Names for all Name Link Types, as the example above shows. If you edit the Tab, you must first select the Name Link Type - if Faxed to is picked, the only names which will be ticked in the Names list will be those of this Name Link Type.
