The main purpose of the Admin Tab is to hold information which is recorded automatically- the edit history, for example. It also shows the Image Path of the Item if it is not the default path - see the section on How Item Cards find Images.

Most fields are not editable by the user. The exception are the two sets of Bates Numbers. These are additional fields intended to record the first and last pages of a document. They are provided because documents often come with a history, having been stored in a variety of systems before they reached you.
As with most fields, they can be used for almost anything.
