Finding Text within Fields

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Most Queries in Openlaw are concerned with identifying within the Case those Item Cards which contain a word, phrase or code which matches the Query in a particular field or fields, and building a Selection of them.

Find Text relates to searches within an Item, for words or phrases in a text or memo field. The most relevant fields are Notes, Text and Site Comments. These are fields which may contain a large quantity of text, particularly the Text field which is intended for OCR text.

The picture shows the Text Tab which includes three binoculars icons. The top icon (which appears on every tab) relates to fields on every tab in the Selection. The ones above specific fields relate to those fields. You can see that:

there is a green flash on the Text Tab

the Text field has turned off-white

the word "agents" is highlighted in red

The user wanted to see every occurrence of the word "agents" in whatever Tab it occurred on. He took the top set of binoculars and the screen below appeared. Into it was typed the word to be sought. There are options to Match whole word only and to Match case which you can use to fine-tune your search. There are buttons to clear highlights and to set different highlight colours.

Here the user is looking for the word "street".

If the user had wanted to restrict the highlights to hits in a particular field, he could have done so for those fields which have binoculars icons above them.

You can use different highlights for different hits and keep them all until you elect to clear them.

Note that the Text search uses the same green flashes to highlight the Tabs which contain the hits.
