User Order numbers are an extra number that can be stored about an Item.
The original problem that they can solve is how to order a collection of documents of the same date, such as an exchange of several faxes.
Make a Bundle of the Items in question, perhaps use Modify Bundle to re-sequence it in the order you want and then use Set User order Numbers to set a sequential set of numbers for the selected Items.

Then in future, sort your searches by Date AND User order Number, and the Items in question will be sorted as you want them, for the given date.
Alternatively, simply enter your chosen User order Number in each Item in turn, using the usual Item Edit facility in Tab view.
