Installation

Be sure to follow any house rules about installing new software.

The Install routine may be provided on the Case CD. If not, it is available from www.openlawdirect.co.uk which provides different versions for different versions of Microsoft Windows together with instructions.

The Install sets available on our web site are as follows:

Operating System

Install File Name

Windows 95/98/NT

Openlaw Single File Install.exe

(or, if you have problems installing this file)

Openlaw Modular Install (various components)

Windows 2000

OpenlawW2kinstallset.exe

Windows XP

OpenlawXPinstallset.exe

Note that the point before "exe" will have been removed - some firewalls reject executable files. Replace this so that the file name ends ".exe"

To "Install" is to run a standard Windows Install program supplied by Oxford Law and Computing, which prepares a computer to run Openlaw by copying system files into the Windows System (or System32) folder and, where relevant, registering them in the Windows Registry.

Run the appropriate Install routine by using the Windows Run command or by double-clicking on the file in Windows Explorer. You can accept the default location for Install or choose another - the only file of any significance which is installed there is the Uninstall instructions file (with a name like STUNST.LOG).

Install must be run on any PC intended to be used, even if the data is shared. The location picked for the purposes of Install is irrelevant to the location of any Openlaw Case which can be anywhere convenient.

For multiple network installations, you may find it easiest to copy the installation files to a central installation drive and then run Install from there for each workstation.

REMINDER: Setup merely prepares the PCs by installing various system files in the Windows directory and System directories - it does not copy any Openlaw files or Data. These will be in a separate directory or directories on the supplied CD or arrive as a self-extracting file from our web site. Openlaw Demo includes a directory called Demo which should be dragged to any convenient location - like other Cases, Demo can go in any directory to which all prospective users have the same mapped network path. A live Case which has been prepared for you by a bureau or another party will be in its own folder which should be dragged to your chosen location .

The default location for images is in a directory called \Images below the Case directory. Again, this can be changed to anywhere convenient - see the Manual sections called How Item Cards find Images and Defining Image Sets to see how to do this.

If users are unable to use the Microsoft Calendar Control in Microsoft Office XP, click here to see how to resolve the problem.
