Licensing and Supply

Each Case is a self-contained unit comprising an executable file, the databases and some additional files such as report forms. You should also be supplied with a licence file (with the extension .lic) which is specific to the Case and a software tool called Case Setup.

You may also be licenced to run an Openlaw Add-On, a separate application providing some additional functionality. The default location for Add-Ons is in a sub-folder called \Add-Ons, but most of them can be run from anywhere and may, subject to the licence terms, be used for more than one Case.

Openlaw Demo is an example of a small case, complete with some sample images – everything needed to allow you to try it out.

If your Case was provided for you by one of our accredited scanning and coding partners, it will have its own name and  instructions. If it was supplied by another licensed user pursuant to an Order or agreement for data exchange in a dispute, then you should read the page called Recipients of Exported Cases. The Install requirements are broadly the same in any of these circumstances.

Every PC running Openlaw must run the formal Install process once. Thereafter, Cases can simply be copied anywhere convenient on the PC or network. They must be Verified in any new location using Case Setup.
