Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Stored Names list is the source of the lookups used throughout Openlaw to pick names e.g. for dropping them into Names fields or for searching.

Names are ordered by Look Up Name, the order you would expect to find them in an alphanumeric list. An Individual at an Organisation will appear as Last Name, First Name of Organisation whilst his or her Stored Name will be First Name Last Name of Organisation.

Each Stored Name is made up of two (optional) parts - and individual and an Organisation.

The components of a new Stored Name must exist as Individuals and/or Organisations as described above.

To complete the example of Horatio Nelson and his Doctor:

Example:

This Names example is introduced here.

Press <Add> and pick Nelson, Horatio as the Individual and Victory Ltd as the Organisation.

You can also add a Note about the Stored Name.

The Stored Name will be Horatio Nelson of Victory Ltd. The Look Up Name will be Nelson, Horatio of Victory Ltd. Press <Save>.

The Alias will be added by default in the same form as the Stored Name without the Job Description (unless the Individual Name exists only as a Job Description). It can be edited. See here for an explanation of Alias Names.

Now add another Stored Name linking Pickering and Anytown General Hospital to make Pickering, Dr William [Senior Medical Officer] of Anytown General Hospital. This will display as Dr William Pickering [Senior Medical Officer] of Anytown General Hospital.
