Compacting is a function to reduce the size of Case databases by removing "white space" within them. This is caused either by index files changing as data is added or edited, or by Bundles being deleted.
Compact is found on the Case menu on the Control Panel. Exclusive use is required to run it.

Note the warning that compacting will free disk space of three times the size of the Case databases.
A heavily-used Case should be compacted quite frequently. This does not simply reduce the size of the database files, but makes the indexes more efficient and faster. It may also fix certain apparent errors.
The last user to leave an Openlaw Case is invited to Back Up and Compact the Case. It is strongly recommended that this option is taken because it ensures that the processes are run at least once a day.
