Adding Items to a Case

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

You can add items to a case, one by one, using the Add button on the item card view screen.

You can also add Items in bulk using Bulk Item Adder.

Bulk Item Adder is a free-standing component of Openlaw. It allows you to add Items in bulk to an Openlaw case, either as blank records or with some fields completed.

Note: this is quite distinct from the standard way to Add new items singly from the Tabs or Grid.

Bulk Item Adder is accessed by double-clicking on it in Windows Explorer or via Case Setup. Take the button  <Launch an Add-On> and click on Bulk Item Adder.exe. You are asked for a user name (your PC's user name is offered as the default).

The screen shown here then appears.

Select a Case

Start by picking the Licence file of the Case to which Items are to be added using the <Select> button. You must have Exclusive Use to bulk add Items.

You then get this screen.

No of Items to add

Then enter the number of Items to be added. You cannot add more Items than your licence allows - if the existing number of Items plus the total you seek to add exceeds the number of Items allowed in your licence, you will be told so. You must then either reduce the number of Items to be added or upgrade your licence. This can usually be done by an exchange of e-mails with your distributing organisation, whose details should appear on the message warning you of the restriction on new Items - see Contact Oxford Law and Computing if you are uncertain who to contact

Start at Item Number

Enter here the first Item number to be added. This will usually be the number immediately following the last Item Number in the system. If your selected number will leave a gap in the Item Number range you will be told so and invited to start at the next sequential number. If your chosen number would result in overlapping Item Numbers, you will be told that this cannot be done (because Item Numbers must be unique) and will then be offered the first available number.

Note that if there is a gap in the Item Numbering of the Case as it stands, you can use Bulk Item Adder to fill the gap. If, therefore, your present numbering ends at 1,000 and starts again at 2,000, you can use Bulk Item Adder to provide Item Nos in the range 1001 to 1999.

Add Intermediate Block of Items

The menu option allows you to add an intermediate block of Items.
